Once again I think my mechanical ignorance has been the root of the problem. I decided just to take the carb off the bike and check everything one more time. After looking at the clymer manual as well as some clos up pics on the web, I realized that I may have been adjusting the float wrong. The book says that the float tab should be resting on the float needle but not pushing it down...well I was looking at the small part on the top of the float needle, not sure what it is called. Anyway When I adjusted the height, the float needle was actually depressed all the way! A friend showed me how to hold the carb at eye level and blow through the cas tube to make ait come out of the jet, it really helped me to visualize what actually happens in there.
